Phetchaburi Mascot and Creative City Logo: International Design Competition 2021

Phetchaburi province has announced that it is seeking submissions for a tourism mascot with its mascot name and a logo for Phetchaburi Creative City of Gastronomy UNESCO. The mascot and logo design should be a symbol of Phetchaburi province for tourism showcasing the core values of Phetchaburi’s spirit of vigilance and resilience, its famous sweet, sour, and salty flavors, as well as the gastronomy concept of ‘Eat & Art Unlimited’.

Objectives

  1. To promote and provide opportunities for designers, students and the general public to show their talent and creativity.
  2. To recognize and appreciate award winning design work as a symbol of public relations for Phetchaburi tourism, in its aim to be the creative city of gastronomy through various media channels.

 

Who Can Enter?

The competition is open to everyone, designers, students, college students and the general public. In order to be eligible for the contest you should be of sufficient legal age at least 18 years of age to agree and sign a contract with Silpakorn University for the use of your design, as outlined in the Mascot and Logo Competition Official Rules.

Contest Timeline

Round 1:
The contest begins on March 8th, 2021 and will continue through Friday, April 30, 2021. To be considered, all entries must be received by the organizing team by 23:59 p.m. Indochina Standard Time (ICT) on Friday, April 30, 2021. The 10 finalists will be announced via Facebook https://www.facebook.com/phetchaburicreativecity/ on Friday May 7, 2021.

All 10 finalists; 5 contestants for Mascot and 5 for Logo category, have to attend the special activity of ‘SUIC Art & Design Camp’ at Phetchaburi from May 20-22, 2021 to learn how to further develop their design, create a 3d model print, presentation skills for art designers, and visit tourism attractions of Phetchaburi. The camp is free of charge including accommodation, meals, training, and activities, but attendance is required. Otherwise, he or she will be disqualified from the competition.

 

Round 2:
The artwork of 10 finalists; 5 mascot and 5 logo contestants, will be displayed as the posts on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/phetchaburicreativecity/
It will open for voting on May 10, 2021 and end on May 22, 2021. The highest likes and shares will receive the special prizes of ‘popular vote’ for each category on the day of the final round.

 

Round 3 (Final Round): Saturday May 29, 2021.
All finalists are required to present their artwork focusing on the idea, inspiration form Phetchaburi, and complete creative work that relates to the support of Phetchaburi Tourism (Mascot) and Phetchaburi Creative City of Gastronomy UNESCO (Logo). Each contestant will have a 5-7 minutes presentation followed by a question-and-answer session with expert judges.
This round will have a Live broadcast through the Facebook fan page of Phetchaburi Creative City.

 

Prizes: Cash in total 112,000 Baht

The winner(s) of the competition will receive a cash prize:

฿ 40,000 for the Winner of the Mascot competition
฿ 20,000 for the Winner of the Logo competition
฿ 20,000 for the First-runner up of the Mascot competition
฿ 10,000 for the First-runner up of the Logo competition
฿ 10,000 for the Second-runner up of the Mascot competition
฿ 5,000 for the Second-runner up of the Logo competition
฿ 5,000 for Popular vote of the Mascot category
฿ 2,000 for Popular vote of the Logo category

Beyond the competition prize, no additional compensation will be provided for the continued use of the mascot and logo design, artwork, or name, and the winner agrees that s/he will relinquish the rights to Silpakorn University for copyright, trademark, promotional use, and other uses as deemed necessary by Silpakorn University.

 

Official Competition Rules

  1. Each contestant is only allowed to submit one mascot design with its mascot name and one logo design to the competition, so pick your best work. We will accept submissions in Digital format by using any software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Clip Studio.

  3. There are two types of competition: Phetchaburi Tourism Mascot Design Competition and logo of Phetchaburi Creative City Gastronomy.
  4. Contestant needs to indicate the mascot name or logo name. Each contestant can submit one work of each category and can submit work in both types.
  5. In applying to participate in the competition, every contestant has to complete an online survey about the Phetchaburi Creative City Tourism before submitting their work.
  6. Mascot For tourism in Phetchaburi Province or Logo of Phetchaburi Creative City of Gastronomy design guidelines are as follows.
    1. Mascot must be shown in A4 paper size, no more than 2 sheets of A4, with at least 3 visible sides: front, back, and oblique corners, which may be displayed in different positions friendly gestures or a fun personality, etc.
    2. Name and express the concept or meaning of the design work. Mascot designs and names that you submit should not be shared publicly online or in any other format, as doing so will disqualify your submission. Once all the designs are collected a Mascot Committee will convene to review them and select the 10 qualified contestants.
    3. The mascot must be universal. That can be used to create mascot costumes, plush toys, souvenirs and other publications, including online publishing.
    4. The design must be designed in a digital format by any software such as Photoshop, InDesign , Illustrator, Clip studio Paint or others and send the work as a digital image file in A4 size, extension .jpg or .png or .pdf, resolution must not be less than 300 dpi.
    5. The logo design must show an A4 paper size and specify the format size of the logo
    6. The logo must reflect Phetchaburi Creative City of Gastronomy UNESCO
  7. Submissions must include their own information on the entry. By typing in a clear, easy-to-read font, the details are as follows:
    1. First name- Family name
    2. Your address, phone number, mobile phone number and email address (most commonly used)
    3. Name of educational institution and field of study (In the case of students)
    4. Name of your work (mascot or logo)
    5. Concept design explanation
  8. Contestants are required to design their own creations. The submitted work must not contain any part to infringe the copyright of others. Do not imitate or bring any other picture to decorate and design must not must not be duplicated with work that has been published, or known before, modified, or have received any awards previously and not to be found or accused of plagiarism. It is therefore the sole responsibility of the submitter (contestant) in any conflict that may arise. The contestant and the work shall be immediately disqualified from accepting awards.
  9. The qualified 10 contestants for the last round in both categories must deliver the original file used to design the work such as .psd .ai or .esp etc.
  10. The works of the 10 qualified contestants are required to give consent of creative works ownership to Silpakorn University which can be used without notifying the owner of the work and reserve the rights to make adjustments for further use as appropriate.

 

Judging criteria

  1. The design concept conveying the meaning that reflects Phetchaburi Province Tourism striving to be the creative city of gastronomy UNESCO based on its landscape, architecture, art, history, culture, and food.
  2. The aesthetics and completeness of the composition easy-to-understand presentation format in terms of perception and ease of recognition of the target audience and public in general.
  3. The mascot design must be produced as a costume for actual human wear in various activities that will allow suitable interaction with the public at events.
  4. The committee’s decision is final.

 

Submission method

  2. The submission link will be displayed on the acceptance page after answering and sending the survey successfully.
  3. One contestant can submit a maximum of 2 times only, divided into mascot type and logo type.
